OPDI-107: Creative Dance for Early Childhood

Elevate your teaching with our comprehensive online course, designed for dance educators committed to fostering the cognitive, physical, and social development of children aged 3 to 8. Learn how creative dance can profoundly influence young minds through developmentally appropriate pedagogy. Delve into child development principles, the latest brain research, the eight concepts of Brain-Compatible Dance (BrainDance), and the NDEO Standards for Dance in Early Childhood, investigated through readings, research, observation and interactive projects-. This course highlights the key elements of Space, Time, Force, and Body, specifically tailored for young learners. You'll conclude the course by creating an outline for a creative dance curriculum and detailed lesson plans. By the end, you will champion creative dance classes as an excellent introduction to dance training for young students, providing them with a strong foundation for future success in other dance styles.

Lynn Monson
<p>Lynn completed Hartford Ballet’s Teacher Training Certificate Program, and earned a BA in Dance at ASU. She has taught dance to all ages, and is a certified Labanotation teacher. She managed an arts-based charter school, developing curriculum, training staff, writing grants, directing school accountability, and teaching dance.</p>
<p>Lynn teaches Creative Dance for Early Childhood for NDEO’s Online Professional Development Institute. She worked on the writing team for the Arizona Dance Standards, and worked on a team to develop student assessments/SLOs for dance. Lynn worked on NDEO’s DELTA writing team. She helped formed the Arizona Dance Education Organization, serving as Secretary, President and Executive Assistant. Lynn served as the State Affiliate representative on the NDEO board.</p>
