Online Learning Design Internship - Fall 2025

Overview

The National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) is seeking a highly motivated remote intern to join our team. As part of this online learning design internship, the intern will spend their time working with NDEO’s Online Professional Development Institute (OPDI) program. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in instructional design, online learning, curriculum development, and adult learner populations, as well as a dance and dance education background.

The National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) is a non-profit, membership organization dedicated to advancing dance education for all. NDEO provides the dance artist, educator, and administrator a network of resources and support, a base for advocacy and research, and access to professional development opportunities that focus on the importance of dance in the human experience. You will find NDEO members in a variety of environments including, but not limited to, dance studios, K-12 schools, colleges, performing arts organizations, and community centers. Within NDEO, we have the OPDI program that offers online dance education courses featuring pedagogy, teaching methods, history, assessments, research, and much more. The courses are designed to appeal to those professionals who want to learn more, enhance domains of knowledge, learn new content areas, and strengthen their own teaching and learning skills.

As part of their work with the ED/CEO and OPDI Program Coordinator, the OPDI Intern will assist in reviewing existing OPDI course structures, identifying areas for improvement, and contributing to the development of new content features.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Check-in meetings with the Executive Director and the Program Coordinator once a week to plan weekly tasks
  • Review current OPDI course materials to understand structure, content, pacing, and user experience.
  • Collaborate with NDEO staff to brainstorm and document ideas for new course features or interactive learning strategies.
  • Research trends in adult learning, online instructional design, and online course platforms and delivery systems.
  • Assist with updating course syllabi, course content formatting, quality checks, and file organization (Google Drive, Sakai LMS, etc.).
  • Provide feedback on OPDI’s Certificate in Dance Education (CiDE) structure and related pathways.
  • Handle administrative tasks like updating OPDI registration statistics, replying to customer email inquiries, registering students, updating webpages and eblasts, communicating with professors, and reviewing post-course evaluation surveys.

COMPENSATION AND JOB DETAILS

  • Dates of Internship: Sept 9, 2025 - December 19, 2025
  • Wage: $15 per hour
  • Length: 16 work weeks* at 10-15 hours a week, schedule to be set in consultation with ED/CEO and the Program Coordinator for OPDI
  • Location: Remote

*The days of Sept 30 - Oct 7 will be non-work days due to the NDEO National Conference in Detroit. The intern receives complimentary registration for the conference if they wish to attend, but NDEO does not cover lodging, travel, meals, or incidental expenses.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with any learning management system (e.g., Sakai, Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly and work independently and proactively
  • Positive attitude and a team player
  • Ability to work autonomously and use critical thinking to problem-solve
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Proficient in Google Drive, Zoom, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work the majority of the hours Monday to Friday between 9:30am to 5:30pm EST.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

鈼 Must be a graduate (master’s) student enrolled in a program related to instructional design, education, dance, arts administration, educational technology, or similar fields.

鈼 Preference will be given to those with a background in dance either as a student, teacher, or researcher.
