Finding and Creating Open Educational Resources for Dance - Webinar on June 19th at 6:30pm ET

Open Educational Resources provide inclusive, accessible tools & materials to all kinds of educators in all sectors of dance education. In this webinar dance educators will learn how to find these valuable resources to aid in their instruction, reduce the costs of materials for themselves and their students, as well as, provide access to inclusive and accessibly created materials. We will discuss how to use and resources with Creative Commons licenses as well as how to apply them to our own work. Participants will learn how to create and publish their own materials and be given the resources to support the editing, review and promotional process in creating these materials. Publishing OER not only provides valuable evidence of research to those seeking promotion, but launches creators into a community of like-minded educators & scholars for future work and support.

The NDEO Board of Directors has voted to appoint Melissa Greenblatt, the current Managing Director, as the Interim Executive Director of the National Dance Education Organization upon the retirement of Susan McGreevy-Nichols on June 30. Melissa will serve in this role from July 1 through October 31, 2025, as the Board conducts a national search.

How do we give feedback that strengthens without silencing, clarifies without imposing, honors difference without assuming sameness? As dance educators, we regularly offer feedback. It’s in our syllabi, built into our assessments, and embedded in our studio culture. But most of us were never taught how to give feedback—only how to survive it. Many of us carry wounds from well-meaning, poorly delivered, careless, or even cruel critiques. These wounds can last decades. They can also shape how we pass on the practice.

Late last Friday night, the National Endowment of the Arts sent out to many organizations. If you or your organization has been affected by these grant cancellations, NDEO can connect you with a consultant who is a former Department of Education political appointee and has been assisting organizations impacted by teacher prep, mental health, IMLS, and NEH grant cancellations. Please reach out immediately if you would like to be connected, as the deadline to file an appeal is seven days from the date the notice was received.
The executive director of Parallel Exit shared this document that is tracking organizations who have lost funding due to the recent cuts. If your organization has lost funding, please add your information to this .
NDEO is working closely with the other members of the Arts Education Alliance to bring you updates, tools and resources. You can use the to contact your members of congress and encourage them to save the NEA and other arts education funding.
