Ready to submit? Click here to learn how to submit.

Preference will be given to presenters who are disabled educators and dance makers and those with demonstrable experience working with disabled dancers, but we encourage everyone to submit. To prepare your submission, you will be asked for the following items. If you need a different format to propose your work, let us know by emailing conference@ndeo.org.

We invite a wide range of contributions from NDEO members and beyond to investigate with us the multiple contexts of dance and disability and their intersections in disability artistry, disability culture, community dance, dance for the stage, PreK-12, Higher Ed, competitive dance worlds, etc.

The goal of this conference is to elevate the field of dance and disability, bring joy to all participants, and create pathways to dance performance and education careers for students and teachers with disabilities.

You may consider the following questions when crafting your proposal. These guiding questions are a small sample of topics you may wish to explore in your session and can be used as a catalyst for your planning, if needed, though not necessary.

  1. How do we revolutionize our pedagogies, curriculum, and lesson plans such that we are more inclusive of disabled teachers, students, audiences, and everybody’s access needs?
  2. How do we challenge our field’s current ableist aesthetics?
  3. What can we learn from disability advocacy, culture, and disability justice within the scope of dance education?
  4. How might we broaden access for disabled and diverse audiences?
  5. How can we both honor our pathways so far and move us toward a more just world in our current policy environment?

How to Submit?

You will need to complete the following requirements

  1.  Identify a Session title (50-character limit)
  2. Session description (for marketing)
    1. 900-character limit for workshops, papers, and panels.
    2. 150-300 character limit (50-100 words) for lightning talks and dance films/videos
  3. Select Session Type:
    1. Movement sessions and experiential workshops (30 minutes + 15 minutes for Q&A, 45 minutes)
    2. Papers and panels (30 minutes for papers; 45 minutes for panels + 15 minutes for open Q&A, 60 minutes)
    3. Lightning talks (5 to 10 minutes max.) Lightning talks are brief offerings that will be organized by the Committee into scheduled blocks that reflect shared themes, encourage community involvement, and create space for interesting conversations between related topics.
    4. Dance films/videos (closed-captioning required. Vimeo or Youtube link, password-protected or open). We will curate a 60-minute meet and greet session with the selected filmmakers during the Summit.
  4. Provide additional context to your topic/description - how does your topic reflect your knowledge,/expertise - is there any additional nuance you'd like to share that doesn't fit within the confines of the session description?
